style="font-family: Arial;">What is energy healing and what does an energy healer do. These are the two questions that this article will answer in the most basic terms. This is the first in a series of articles discussing this topic that will lead to an e-book and several instructional videos.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial;">There are many ideas being held on what is energy healing. Ideas that portray healing as psychic surgery, falling down and speaking in tongues or laying on of hands to name but a few.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial;">But <a
href="http://www.janeterickson.com/">energy healing</a> is much more then the &#8220;side show&#8221; theater that we are generally used to seeing. It is a deep and fundamental change in how we view ourselves, the world and God. <a
href="http://www.janeterickson.com/spiritual-healing-blog/">Spiritual healing</a> lifts a person above themselves so that they are able to see everything from a new perspective. Do not be fooled by the theater of &#8220;psychic&#8221; types, spiritual growth is an intimate and very quiet pursuit.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial;"><em>Energy healing</em> shows itself in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual change in the individual. These changes can be profound and noticeable to everybody or they can be subtle and only felt by the person making the changes. Going from physical sickness to a state of recovery is a part of spiritual awakening. Finding peace in emotional calmness is another aspect of change that is seen as a person goes through the process of spiritual healing.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial; color:">The most dramatic part of the process is when one is able to have a clearer vision of God and how we relate to God and to each other. This feeling of unity and brotherhood redefines a persons life and their direction in terms of career, interpersonal relationships and spiritual growth.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial;">A healer is a facilitator of this process. A <a
href="http://www.janeterickson.com">spiritual healer</a> has the ability to &#8220;see&#8221; the person as a whole greater then the sum of their parts. The healers job is to help remove blocks to an individuals growth.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial;">How a spiritual guide does their job varies from healer to healer. Most accomplished healers have the ability to see the blocks that are causing the problems in the lives of their clients. The blocks can be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Through a combination of talking to provide awareness and <strong>energy healing</strong> the client is brought from a state of dis-ease to one of more balance.</span></p><p><span
style="font-family: Arial;">A spiritual healer may only see a client once or twice or like a trusted adviser play a part is an individuals life for many years. A healers job is to maintain the growth process for as long as a client want to implement change.</span></p><h3>Energy Healing</h3><p><span

Some people may argue that many of these deaths are preventable by life style changes.</p><p>But here is a sobering thought. The sixth leading cause of death in the USA is &#8220;medical errors&#8221;.</p><blockquote><p>The Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) seminal study of preventable medical errors estimated as many as 98,000 people die every year at a cost of $29 billion.1 If the Centers for Disease Control were to include preventable medical errors as a category, these conclusions would make it the sixth leading cause of death in America. <a

However, it will lead back into several energy healing and protection methods.</p><p>I have spent the last several weeks helping my mother navigate through a stay at the hospital.</p><p>She is 86 years old and unfortunately had a fall that broke her leg very close to her hip.</p><p>Scary to say the least. But the EMTs responded very quickly and off she went to the emergency room closely followed by myself and my sister.</p><p>The emergency room staff were caring and efficient. My mother was admitted and surgery was scheduled for the next day.</p><p>The surgery went smoothly and after a few hours in recovery she was moved to her room.</p><div

width="315" height="235" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GtC_8KJZrkI?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div><p>OK, you are probably saying to yourself, &#8220;So what is the problem and why do I have to protect myself&#8221;?</p><p>I do not have very much experience with hospitals so I did not realize that there are actually two very different worlds within a hospital.</p><p>There is the world of emergencies and critical care.</p><p>This includes the emergency room, all operations, recovery and ICU.</p><p>All of these people seem to have everything together. They are efficient, caring, well trained and well staffed.</p><p>Her ICU care had one nurse for 2 patients.</p><p>I have nothing but high praise for all of my contacts in these areas.</p><p>The other world within the hospital is being in the general population.</p><p><strong>And my advice here is to get out as fast as humanly possible.</strong></p><div
style="float: left; margin: 3px 10px 0px 3px;"><iframe
width="315" height="235" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nfpffbyfmcA?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div><p>There may not be a more dangerous place to be in this country then in the hospital.</p><p><strong>Never go into the hospital without someone close watching out for you. It will be next to impossible to be your own advocate.</strong></p><p>In another post I will list many statistics about how bad hospital care can be. I will also do a post with stories that I have been told about what it was like to be in the hospital or to be someone’s advocate who is in the hospital. And in another post or two I would like to share some energy healing and protections techniques that helped save my mother from harm.</p><p>But in this post I just want to list a few examples of what she went through and how we worked at getting things done correctly. And understand that me or my sister were with my mother probably 15 hours a day for almost two weeks.</p><p>Before I go through my abbreviated list, my advice is this &#8211; <strong>Question everything, take nothing on face value because a doctor or nurse said it</strong>. If you have a question, do not feel bad about asking. Do not get brushed off. If you feel like that is happening go up the food chain. Ask to talk with the nursing supervisor or the head of any department that you are having trouble with. If need be talk with the hospital administrator.</p><p>Do not be blown off. Do not care if you are seen as a nuisance. Be polite if possible but be firm and be relentless.</p><p>So now for an abbreviated list -</p><ul><li>Bring in a list of all medications &#8211; but do not assume that anyone will read it or follow it. Even though your list may be made up of medicines that work well they generally will be ignored. So go over the chart with the duty nurse and understand why there is any change in the medicine that you have on the list.</li><li>Bring in a list of all medicines that you are allergic to &#8211; but do not assume that they will read or follow it. There seems to be a feeling that there is no difference between medications and one is just as good as the other. This is so wrong. If it were true how would you have developed a list of medicines that you are allergic to.</li><li>Always keep up on the pain meds &#8211; make sure the orders are for set intervals of time and not written &#8220;as needed&#8221;. Since it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 60 minutes for a nurse or aid to respond to a call button you could be in pain for a while before you get any relief. And besides if you are less then coherent from your stay you are not a good one to monitor your pain levels. Your advocates will not be able to be with you 24/7.</li><li>Monitor scheduled treatments &#8211; doctor ordered treatments seem to be taken as a suggestion and will be filled if they get the chance. My mother was scheduled for regular nebulizer treatments. It took herculean effort to get at least 50% to 70% of the treatments done on any given day.</li><li>It’s always someone else&#8217;s fault &#8211; What can I say here?</li></ul><p>I could go on and on. [...]]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last year I mentioned that a search of Amazon yielded some 1,500 books on the topic of <a
href="http://www.janeterickson.com/spiritual-healing-blog/energy-healing/does-the-law-of-attraction-really-work/750/">the law of attraction</a>.</p><p>And with so many books written on this method of change you would think that everybody would have the relationships they want, the income they want and the level of health that they want.</p><p>But as we all know this is not the case.</p><p>Now of course there are many people who are not aware of this concept. But I am talking about the people who have bought the books, have listened to the CDs and watched the videos.</p><p>Why is it not working for so many of these people?</p><p>It seems to me that with so many books on the subject that there must be something happening that causes this law not to work. So I wrote a lot about <a
href="http://www.janeterickson.com/spiritual-healing-blog/spiritual-growth/law-of-attraction-resources/723/">the law of attraction</a> and how our world view affects how well this law will work in our lives.</p><p>I want to continue that discussion this year because it seems to me that a fundamental yet simple shift in our world view will generate amazingly positive results.</p><p><strong>What do Words have to do with it?</strong></p><p>The law of attraction basically says that whatever we hold in our thoughts will become manifested.</p><p>Now that is a very straight forward concept. And I believe that all the books can be summed up in a single sentence &#8211; &#8220;You are what you think and your world is what you think it is&#8221;.</p><p>What is so frustrating to me is that for everyone that knows this &#8220;law&#8221; why aren&#8217;t they rich, vibrantly healthy and in great relationships. I know I am repeating myself about this frustration but I want everyone to have the life they want and deserve.</p><p>Since I am not a mind reader I have to listen to the <a
href="http://www.janeterickson.com/spiritual-healing-blog/spiritual-growth/spiritual-growth-2-killer-words-that-stop-growth/8/">words that people use</a> to understand their thoughts and mental processes.</p><p>What I have found is that there are many words that we use that demonstrate to me that our thoughts are not always geared to self fulfillment.</p><p><strong>So let’s use an example.</strong></p><p>I speak with a client and they tell me how they are diligently applying the law of attraction to increase their business income. They describe how they make affirmation lists and how they meditate on seeing their business grow.</p><p>Here is how they might describe what they do.</p><p>“I wake in the morning and the first thing I do is try to visualize how I want the day to go. I try and set my intentions so that all of the good things I want will come to me. Several times during the day I take a few minutes and try to bring into focus the things that I want to happen. I even take some time out of the day and try and meditate so that I can make full use of the law of attraction.”</p><p>When I listen to my client describe what they do my mind is drawn to their use of the word “try”.</p><p>I believe that there are a number of “killer words” that show our underlying thought processes.</p><p>When I hear someone use the word “try” it says to me that even though they are doing what the books say to do, their underlying belief is that it will not work.</p><p>Because in my mind the word “try” means an unsuccessful attempt. Or in other words, they believe that their work at change will really fail.</p><p>So their efforts are doomed from the start.</p><p><strong>What to do?</strong></p><p>As this year progresses I will write on each of the “killer words” that I find limits our progress. In this article I want to look at different exercises and their effects on our levels of stress.</p><p>As a general rule most people think of exercise in the conventional sense of running, jumping, lifting weights, swimming and different types of aerobics.</p><p>While these exercises do have physical benefits their stress relief benefits are limited. They do provide some stress relief in terms of pure exertion and pumping up your metabolism. But they don&#8217;t teach your body to shed stress nor do they teach your body to block stress before it has a chance to get get past your defenses.</p><p>So what exercises do work to keep you stress free.</p><p>Not to keep you in suspense, the exercises fall under the categories of yoga, breath work, internal martial arts and meditation.</p><p>If you are not familiar with these types of exercises I think you will be very surprised at how effective they are in relieving stress and in protecting your body from new stressors.</p><p>What I would like to do is recommend some websites that discuss these types of exercises and also show you examples of different basic exercises that you can practice at home.</p><h2>Breathing Exercises for Stress Relief</h2><p>The breathing exercise featured in this post is the basic approach to cyclic breathing.
