Does the Law of Attraction Really Work?

August 8th, 2011 by

I just did a quick search over at Amazon and found 1500 books on the Law of Attraction. And when I searched in all departments I found another 1500 items for sale. That’s a total of over 3000 books, videos, audios and even software for subliminal products all focused on the LOA.

There is quite an industry catering to those of us interested in using the Law of Attraction to obtain all of the things that we desire.

The title “Law of Attraction” is only several years old but the concepts behind the “law” are not new at all.

The most popular modern writer on this subject is Napoleon Hill with his classic book “Think and Grow Rich”.  And he was preceded by dozens of other writers teaching the same idea. If you would like to read some of these books you can download them here at no cost.

So with this abundance of books, videos, audios, subliminal tapes, courses and seminars why doesn’t everybody have exactly what they want?

The posts that I write concerning financial abundance and the Law of Attraction get the most visits.

You would think that with everything that is out there concerning the LOA that everybody would be fulfilled and there would be no interest in my posts or the sale of any books.

So obviously there is something that is not working.

Now I am sure that there are a fair number of people who buy these books, tapes etc.  and let them collect dust. So if you do not use the techniques then that does not count toward the idea not working.

What I am interested in are all of those people who actually work at the different variations of the system and still do not have what they want.

Why is that?

Let’s Use an Example

The Law of Attractions says that what we concentrate on with clarity of purpose and high emotions will be drawn into our life.

So you follow the rules and work on financial abundance or vibrant health or a great relationship.

But suppose that most of the people you know have bad relationships, do not have financial abundance and are not very healthy.

Or said another way, the world you live in does not support the possibility of these wonderful things becoming manifest. They do not exist in your world.

Suppose you were the world’s leading expert at finding buried water. You had a success rate of 95% on any given day.

Now suppose you were moved to a desert environment that had almost no water.  What do you think your success rate would be on any given day?

How successful you are is primarily determined by the environment you live in.

If you live in a world that you view as containing very few or no opportunities for financial success, how can you bring those opportunities into your life? No matter how good you are at manifestation.

What Does All of This Mean?

All of this means, that if you believe that what you want does not exist in your world then you will not be able to bring it into your life.

And that is the problem with the Law of Attraction.

Before you can manifest something you first have to change your world view to believe that the things that you want truly exist in abundance in the world.

Until that happens the “>Law of Attraction will not produce the results we know that it should produce.

What to Do?

One person sees the world full of opportunity while another sees the world as a hard place to make a living.

One person lifts themselves out of poverty with the opportunities they see while another has trouble feeding their family because of the lack that they see.

Do these people live in the same world? Possibly not.

In my next article I want to talk about the “tapestry of life”.  But for now I want to say that the world is a place of infinite possibilities and what we see in the world is what we choose to see.

One example is of the optimist who sees the glass as half full and the pessimist who sees the glass as half empty. They are both looking at the same glass/world but see two entirely different things.

Do you think that the glass is half empty person can manifest abundance with their world view of lack?

The first thing to realize is that we can change our world view and therefore change the opportunities that come into our lives.

When there are many opportunities available then the Law of Attraction works very easily.

15 Quick Tips – Remove Negative Thoughts

June 20th, 2011 by

The other day I was wandering around the web looking for information about positive and negative thinking.

I found many articles that had great little snippets of advice on how to remove negative thoughts.

Below you will find a summary of some of the tips I found on how to deal with negative thinking.

1. One of the things I found that surprised me was that there seems to be studies that imply that negative thoughts have a greater impact on our lives then do positive ones. I suspect that the reason for this would be the emotions attached to these thoughts. I would think that the negative thoughts are super charged with emotions while the positive ones lack any strong feeling. This would mean that you need to have a lot more positive thoughts to counteract the negative. Also it would mean that you need to have a lot more emotions associated with your positive thoughts.

2. Since we know that we are prone to negative thinking always have some fall back positive thoughts to use to counter with.

3. Be aware that the negative thoughts are tenacious. They do not want to give up their hold on your life. When you realize that you are in a negative spiral just stop and smile at yourself. Be aware of what is happening and just kick those negative thoughts out of your mind.

4. Do things that make you happy. Do not give room in your mind for the negative.

5. When you find yourself angry at someone immediately change your point of view to the positive.

6. If you have heard the expression, “You are what you eat”. Well you also are like the people you hang out with. If you hang out with negative people you will simply absorb their negative energy so remove negative energy from these people. Work very hard at being with positive people and you will find yourself becoming more positive.

7. Ban all negative words from your vocabulary.

8. You will find that helping others is a great way to help yourself. Helping the less fortunate will make it harder to keep negative thoughts in your mind.

9. When you are stressed you are more likely to have negative thinking. Be aware of this and immediately change any negative words.

10. Pay attention to the good things in your life. Focus on gratitude.

11. Look outside yourself for advice. When you are being attacked with negative thoughts asks friends and family for a little perspective.

12. Use the negative thinking as a way to be aware of what is going on in your life. If you start thinking negative thoughts look at what situations you were in that might have triggered them. If you can identify specific situations then you can either avoid them of be prepared to defend against negativity.

13. Reframe the thoughts you are having. Instead of thinking that “this situation is impossible” work at changing the thoughts to “this situation gives me a lot of challenges to use to grow”.

14. Realize that you are not perfect and that neither is anyone else.

15. Know that you say things to yourself that you would never say to anyone else. Treat yourself at least as respectful and you would a stranger.

Good Thoughts About Life – Not That Easy to Do

May 31st, 2011 by

We are told that it is best to have good thoughts, to look on the bright side of things and that every cloud has a silver lining. We are told that this is a way to keep stress down which will keep us healthy. We are told that having good thoughts about life will keep us happy and help us be a better family member, friend and neighbor.

We hear this advice from self proclaimed “gurus”, we hear it from spiritual leaders of all denominations and we read it in almost every self help book on the market.

So, even though we hear this advice all of the time, why is it so hard to do? Why is it that most people are plagued with constant negative thoughts? Why can’t you be happy all the time and why can’t you “whistle while you work”? Why do you get frustrated in long traffic jams or get angry at your neighbor for letting their dog bark? Why do you hate your boss for being such a jerk and why do you get angry at your spouse or kids. Why do these things happen to you when you have been told this is not the best way to behave for your health physically, emotionally and spiritually?

These things happen to you because it is very hard to remove negativity from your mind when you are constantly bombarded with negativity in your life. Wherever you turn you run into negativity.  We are programmed with negativity, with violence and with hatred. I know that this sounds pretty awful but it is true.

Let’s look at a number of the ways this is true. The first place to look is at the ever present TV. The average family watches over 5 hours of TV per day. And what do we see the most of?  Let’s start with the news. We all want to keep up with current events so we end up hearing reports of war, domestic violence and natural disasters.  Do you like detective shows?  They have constant violence and murder. Have you noticed how much violence is in cartoons?  And sports are not much better. Football, which is so hard hitting, now has to have more rules that help keep players out of the hospital.

I could go on and on about the ways that we are programmed to think in angry, violent and hateful ways. In fact we are presented with visions of violence far more often than we are presented with visions of kindness and happiness.

Here are some statistics from Columbia State University that will give you a glimpse at the level of violence and hate that we are exposed to.

Number of murders seen on TV by the time an average child finishes elementary school: 8,000

Number of violent acts seen on TV by age 18: 200,000

Percentage of Americans who believe TV violence helps precipitate real life mayhem: 79%

I woke up to understanding the importance of the type of input that entered my brain. I realized that our brains are like a computer – trash in, trash out, quality in, quality out. Let’s look at some ways to remedy the situation. In the outline below I will only touch on a few methods to make changes and expand on these ideas in future articles and workshops.

A first step would have to be to limit the input of negativity. If you decide that TV is an enjoyable pastime then you will need to assess the type of shows that you watch. Evaluate the nature of the show. Do you generally get upset with something that takes place within the regular programming of the show? Take a close look at what types of messages are being presented.

The second step is to monitor other sources of input in your life – movies, books, magazines, newspapers and music. I was surprised when I started to really listen to the lyrics of the music that I regularly listened to. Remember to look at the ratio of negativity to positivity. This exercise alone will make a big difference in your thinking.

The next step would be to look at your thoughts. How do you think about things? What is the nature of your thoughts? Do your thoughts have a theme? Do you habitually respond to events in a certain way? Are you happy with the way that you respond? By looking at your thoughts you have the ability to change your thought processes. This is not an easy task but can be aided by meditations and coaching.

Any habit, including habitual thinking, is hard to break. Seeking the help of others on a similar pursuit makes the job a lot easier. Depending on where you live will make the search for this type of help either easy or hard. If you live in a larger city then there are always groups around that can fulfill your needs. However, if you live in a small town then there is a good chance that you will have to look for groups on the internet or travel out of you area.

Once you start taking steps to change your thinking, to generate good and happy thoughts about life, you may find that you run into many stumbling blocks. If this is the case you may need the assistance of a trained energy healer. Healers have the ability to look at how your energy interacts with your surroundings and how your energy may be tied to these non productive thought patterns.

As you have seen, there are many factors that condition us to have negative thoughts. I hope that this article was helpful in understanding how we get stuck in negative thinking and some methods that will help you to have good thoughts about life.
